For 1986 Honda dropped the RFVC four-valve engine from the XR200R and fitted the simpler two-valve unit from the XR200 playbike, keeping the Pro-Link chassis. The result was a tractable, easy-to-maintain trail bike praised for its handling in tight woods and suited to beginners and intermediates, though testers noted a harsh initial fork stroke and a wide gap between second and third gears.
